“A mind is a terrible thing to waste”, or so the saying goes. But what about all those great ideas you keep to yourself. Each and everyone of us has created something useful that is now just sitting on our hard drive. Imagine if we all shared our knowledge, made it so others with similar problems could access our tools, templates and policies. Think of all the time and energy saved, the progress we could make. Well, IdeaEncore Network did.
IdeaEncore Network created an online knowledge sharing platform, which allows nonprofits and social enterprises to not only share information but make an income as well. Nonprofits face similar problems everyday. Solving these problems takes time, energy and resources that are already on short supply. By enabling people to share information more broadly, with colleagues and strangers, IdeaEncore acts as a catalyst for progress.
Co-founders Scott Bechtler-Levin and Flo Green noticed that people are happy to share knowledge, but only with those they know. By collecting information in one place, building a network of partners to spread this information and applying search engine optimization, this B Corp has been able to expand and magnify impact. 80% of the information is available for free, but the rest is priced so that nonprofits can leverage their assets to gain an income. This not only facilitates the nonprofits efforts, but spreads best practices throughout the community, multiplying the return on philanthropic investments. And this is great for us all.
When IdeaEncore Network first started, it was unclear what type of organization it should be. After careful thought, they decided to seek Certified B Corp status. It has the right mix of certification and advocacy, balancing tactical and strategic concerns. B Corp status has allowed IdeaEncore to combine the ability to access capital as a business, while assuring skeptical nonprofits that they uphold rigorous standards.
Looking forward, IdeaEncore will continue to find new content partners. They are looking to connect with existing resource libraries so their users can access more useful information. This B Corp is positioning itself to open the door to different silos
and build bridges between them. It is their hope to dramatically reduce the “reinvention of the wheel” in nonprofits and have them build each other’s capacity to save time and knowledge. This will not only amplify impact but reduce reliance on donations. By unlocking assets that help other people, IdeaEncore Network is shepherding our way into a better future.
Let’s work together and Better Know IdeaEncore Network.
