Today marks Women’s Equality Day and the passing of the 19th Amendment. In celebration, we would like to recognize the many wonderful, women-owned and run B Corporations. Women-owned firms (50% or more) account for 40% of all privately held firms, according to the Center for Women’s Business Research. However, despite continual progress, women still lag behind men in entrepreneurship. Only 20% of all businesses over $1 million are women-owned enterprises.

It’s no surprise that there are over 85 amazing, women-run B Corps. According to a recent Forbes article, women are generally more focused on building companies that reflect their values. Teresa Nelson, McCandless Chair in Entrepreneurship at the Simmons School of Management, is quoted stating, “Research shows that women are drawn to organizations that provide values beyond wealth.” And that’s what being a Certified B Corp is all about.
